Lost in the vast expanse of the Negev Desert and a few kilometers from the Gaza Strip, you can find, among other things, a green oasis, thanks to irrigation from the Holit kibbutz.

On this co-op farm, inhabited by no more than 100 people who struggle day-by-day against unforgiving sands, two Days for Peace and Non-Violence were held on the 7th and 8th of October, 2009, in cooperation with the socialist kibbutz movement Hashomer Hatzair and members of the World March for Peace from Israel, Spain, Argentina, France, and Switzerland.

These events were staged by dozens of adults and youths, who, hailing from all parts of the globe, have come here for one year to immerse themselves in other ways of living.

Jayme Fucs Bar, president of Hashomer Hatzair International, proclaimed: “Today we have come all the way here to tell the leaders of Israel and Palestine: stop the violence, stop the bloodshed, stop the war. We want to live our lives like normal people, get up in the morning, go to work, study, stroll through the countryside, without fear of rockets, without fear of tanks, without fear of attacks, and without fear of bombs from airplanes… we want to live in peace, Israelis and Palestinians, Jews and Muslims, without hatred, we want to watch our children grow up without violence and with a future…”

Aaron Elberg and Roberto Kohanoff, members of the WM team in Israel, talked about the objectives of the World March for Peace, especially in this region of heavy conflict.
