In the public event at the beginning of his visit to Spain, Evo Morales, President of Bolivia, received the support of Federico Mayor Zaragoza in front of thousands of Bolivians and people from various countries, among which was a big group of humanists, organisers of the World March.----
In the public event in Leganés (Madrid) at the start of his Spanish visit, Morales, who endorsed the WM several months ago, agreed that Zaragoza, President of the Culture for Peace Foundation, was one of the first public figures to support this great project. In his speech, Mayor Zaragoza thanked the Bolivian President for having put a culture of peace into the Bolivian constitution.
Evo Morales, for his part, besides giving a summary of his time in office, emphasised some aspects directly related to the central themes of the March.
Alluding to aspects of the new Constitution, Evo said, "Now the Bolivian people can decide. Not only is it a representative democracy, it's a participative democracy... before there were coups; now there are referenda."
After recalling that Bolivia has included in her Constitution the renunciation of war as a way to resolve conflicts he asked the Europeans to, "help us stop military bases in Latin America," referring to the tense situation that the region is experiencing at the moment due to the news of US military bases being built in Colombia.
Speaking about the defence of the environment, he made a new call: "To our humanist brothers, the many social organisations, collectives, intellectuals, people who are dedicated to defending Mother Earth, we want to say to you, 'help us to defend Mother Earth to save humanity!'"
