During the third prize-giving of the prizes that bear his name, Federico Mayor Zaragoza encouraged active participation in the World March for Peace and Nonviolence in the event that took place in the town he comes from, Tortosa.----
During the event to mark the 3rd Federico Mayor Zaragoza awards in Tortosa on the 29th May, Zaragoza called the day a starting point for World March activities in the region of Terres de l'Ebre.
One of the FMZ prizes was given to a school twinning project between the Joan Salvat Papasseit School (Mollet del Vallès, Catalonia) and the Fodé Ansou Kane de Makacoulibantang School (Tambacounda region, Senegal). Enrique Collado, humanist creator of the project attended the event accompanied by World without Wars (Catalonia) President, Carles Martin.
Mayor Zaragoza spoke, during the event, about the need for a new world-wide economic system and the need for, at least, 20% of governmental decision-making positions to go to women so that true change may be possible. He also stressed that it would be useful for Tortosa to participate in the network of cities that will develop activities for the World March and the need for many more places to join in and for a popular movement against all forms of violence. He also encouraged "virtual mobilisation" through the internet and the media.
Other activities for the World March continued into the evening with stories and clowns for the children, a release of balloons into the air, music and other light-hearted activities.
