The European Symposium on Nonviolence For the year of the World March for Peace and Nonviolence
26.4.2009 - Pressenza - International press agency
The European Symposium on Nonviolence For the year of the World March for Peace and Nonviolence April 24 and 25, Attigliano (TR), Italy Conferences and Round Tables at the Hotel Umbria Cultural Activities at the Parks of Study and Reflection.
In this Symposium, scholars from distinct disciplines will discuss the subject of Nonviolence as applied to the multiple fields of human activity: economy, disarmament, politics, health, education, culture, religion, art, and media.
The Symposium is meant for all those individuals and organizations working daily in their respective fields and with varied interests toward a nonviolent world.
Today all realms of human life are experiencing an accelerated increase in violence. The relationships among different cultures and ethnic groups, international relationships, and even everyday relationships among ordinary people are permeated by violence, which hinders problem solving and personal and social development.
Nevertheless, in several individuals and social groups a new consciousness is emerging signified by the adamant refusal of any form of violence: physical, economic, racial, religious, sexual, psychological, or moral. This rejection of violence has clearly become the necessary condition for human survival.
Nonviolence, as an attitude and a methodology of action, is not a provisional remedy; it is the one and only way out of human prehistory.
It is in this spirit that the symposium intends to promote the March for Peace and Non-violence, which will commence in Wellington, New Zealand, on October 2nd 2009 culminating in the Park of Study and Reflection of Punta de Vacas, Argentina at the foot of Mount Aconcagua, the Roof of America.
During these 90 days the March will travel through 100 countries where millions of people will participate with the aim of stirring the consciousness of world leaders and the multitudes of peoples alike regarding the monstrosity of violence, weapons, and the threat of nuclear proliferation.
