Spain - THE WORLD MARCH IN BARCELONA SCHOOLS
The World March for Peace and Nonviolence was celebrated in CEIP Joan Salvat Papasseit de Mollet del Vallès (Barcelona). Beginning with a giant hug in the school by parents, teachers and families. An almond and olive tree were planted rapresenting "peace" and "nonviolence". Videos representing friendship were screened during the week.
France - NONVIOLENCE IN PARIS STREETS
The Truck of Peace and Nonviolence travelled throughout all of Paris's streets.
The initiative was carried out by the Center of Cultures in Paris.
It ended with a speech emphasizing that "world hunger can be ended with 10% of what is spent on arms and now is the right time to create a global consciousness".
Bangladesh - BANGLADESH IN MARCH FOR PEACE AND NONVIOLENCE
The first event to promote the World March for Peace and Nonviolence in Bangladesh took place in TSC (Teachers Students Center, Dhaka University), which is the center of all kind of movement in the heart of Dhaka city.
19 organizations (cultural, political, social movements, NGO's) partecipated in the organization of the event. Three local celebrities gave their contribution: Andru Kishore (film music playback), Fahmida Nabi (singer) and Si Tutul (pop).
The World March for Peace and Nonviolence will begin in New Zeland on October, 2, 2009, the anniversary of Gandhi's birth, and conclude in Punta de Vacas, in the Andes Mountains, on January, 2, 2010. During these 90 days, the march will cross 90 countries, over 100 cities, 6 continents, covering a distance of over 160'000 km. The goal of the march is send a clear signal against arm's race, conventional and nuclear, so that governments will abandon war as a solution of conflicts and to create global awareness about the need to condemn all forms of violence.
Many important personalities have already given their endorsment to the march, including Chilean President Michelle Bachelet, Nobel Laureates Desmond Tutu and Josè Saramago, orchestra conductor Zubin Mehta, linguist and political activist Noam Chomsky, artists such as Viggo Mortensen, Philip Glass, Pete Seeger, Noa, Juanes and Carolyn Carson, sportsmen such as Juventus team manager Gianluca Pessotto and politicians as EU Parliament Luisa Morgantini.
