Evo and the Bolivian people confront the racism and hatred of anti-humanism

20.9.2008
The Bolivian opposition did not receive popular support in the recent referendum, being rejected by more than 66% of the votes and neither did they receive international support to overthrow the government of Evo Morales. Instead of accepting rejection in a democratic process, they have taken the abominable and monstrous decision: to destabilise the Bolivian government at any price, without concern for human life, putting in danger the whole society regardless of their own sons or their own blood.

Even when the Bush government has only a few months remaining, it still has enough time to continue creating humanitarian disasters in Georgia, Iraq, Afghanistan and without doubt, now, in Bolivia.

The expulsion of the US Ambassador to La Paz is a brave act and a call for attention to the whole of the international community to prevent US intervention in their support of a sick opposition of hatred and violence.

We call on all governments of the world to summon the US Ambassador in their country to give an explanation for what is happening in Bolivia. They cannot allow this intervention without a minimum show of concern. The United States has to realise that the world has changed and that it cannot encourage division of factions within a country.

We call on the Bolivian people, in particular those who support the opposition, to not allow themselves to be dragged into incendiary discussions and not allow themselves to be infected by hatred, insults, racism and the hysteria of irresponsible leaders who are risking other’s lives to achieve their interests.

We are calling on the Bolivian people, that are with Evo and the process of transformation, to resist non-violently all provocation, to resist all offence and continue the Nonviolent struggle, to unite in this moment around the figurehead of Evo Morales because this is not a moment for discussions or divisions; it is the moment to resist through nonviolence, to unite and advance towards the constitutional plebiscite.

As Humanists of the world, we demand that our governments repudiate US intervention in Bolivia; we call on our governments to support decisively the popular mandate of the Bolivian people, expressed democratically in the recent referendum.

For our part, we are expressing our total solidarity and backing for the President of Bolivia, Evo Morales and the Bolivian people that are striving to build a better future.
