The Invisibles against US missile defense

Congressional candidate Carol Miller joins Worldwide Solidarity Fast

20.6.2008

Sunday, June 22nd has been declared a day of fasting worldwide.  The hunger strike is a protest against the Star Wars components the U.S. is proposing to build and place throughout the world.  This non-violent protest, which involves the hunger strike and an on-line petition drive, is in solidarity with Czech peace activists to
pressure the Czech Parliament to take a stand against the construction of a U.S. Military base in the Czech Republic.  The construction of this new base is seen in Europe as further steps towards militarizing space.   This U.S. Base will make it possible for the installation of a radar system followed by another U.S. Base in Poland for interceptor missiles. (see www.nonviolence.cz and www.space4peace.org).

In joining this Solidarity Fast, Congressional candidate Carol Miller has taken a stand against the U.S. spending our precious human resources and money on this dangerous technology, which only furthers worldwide hostility against the U.S. and keeps the “cold war” mentality alive.

“Congress must immediately take a firm stand against the dangerous and wasteful Star Wars program. Billions of dollars are pouring into a program that does not protect us and actually continues to erode our national image abroad,” stated Miller. “People in the United States are struggling with a failed economy and the billions of dollars spent on this program will primarily benefit defense contractors.”

“The best security for the United States is to dialogue and work for peace with other countries, not to endlessly prepare for future wars.”

Miller is campaigning on the commitment to change national priorities away from war and a war economy to investment in renewable energy, education, health care, and rebuilding of the nation’s infrastructure. “Investments in our communities here at home will create good jobs which cannot be outsourced,” said Miller.
