Stop The War Machine is inviting all New Mexicans to join in solidarity with the Czech Republic hunger strikers against building a US Military Base in that country. A number of citizens from the Czech Republic began a hunger strike on May 13th in order to non-violently protest the planned installation of the base. Sunday, June 22, has been named as the international day to show support, and we will meet at the Truman Gate of Kirtland AFB, from 9 AM to 9 PM, performing a vigil and hunger strike for that day.

The folks from Trinity Catholic Worker and Food Not Bombs will come to the
Truman Gate at 9 PM to ceremoniously break the fast. We invite people to
participate in this event, whether fasting or not. Many will bring signs
with these type messages: "No Weapons in Space," "No US Base in the Czech
Republic," "Shut Down STARFIRE," "Air Force: Hands Off Social Security and
Medicare". It appears that additional groups will hold their own separate
vigil on that day in a different part of Albuquerque or New Mexico, calling
for an end to the weaponization of Space and especially calling for an end
to the proposed US Military Base in the Czech Republic. We are also calling
for the shutdown of STARFIRE, which is a Space-laser structure right here in
Albuquerque, being tested for its use in the US plan of Space dominance.

This hunger strike is a world-wide event in support of the vast majority of
Czechs who have expressed their outrage via mass demonstrations, opinion
polls, petitions; yet the Czech government refuses even to allow public
debate. Over 70% of the Czech citizens ask their will be respected and that
the subject of the US Military Base be decided democratically through a
referendum. We are thus gathering together Sunday, June 22, to show support
for the international hunger strikers and to call for the US government to
end its plans for the "Space shield" project, which endangers the peace and
coexistence of people world-wide.
