The Invisibles against US missile defense
Letter of support from US veteran
31.5.2008
Mr. Tamas,
I wanted to let you know that you have my support for your protest from here in the U.S. I am an American who does not want anymore U.S. bases created around the world.
For a long time, I did not know what U.S. foreign policy really was, because like most Americans, I lived a sheltered life. After high school, I joined the air force and became a Russian linguist. Learning another language gave me great insight into other cultures which I had never experienced before.
I now see what U.S. foreign policy is...it is imperialism. I apologize on behalf of Americans, because honestly, they don't even know what our government is doing in our name overseas. The average American has no idea that our government is trying to build a so-called "missile defense shield" in other countries and that the citizens don't want them there.
However, there are some Americans that know and do care. I am a member of a veteran's group called Iraq Veterans Against the War and another group called Veterans for Peace. We stand in solidarity with you as you continue your fight. We don't want anymore bases created around the world, and we want the U.S. troops to come home from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Please feel free to contact me or another group member at anytime, if you would like someone to come to your protest in support. It may be feasible to have a member come to you. We have members in Europe as well.
In any case, I hope that the U.S. gives up its imperialistic desire to create a missile shield in your country.
We hope that we have your support too in our struggle against a domestic opponent.
In solidarity,
Tassi Mckee
